Why we built the lab

Not a sourcingdecision. A conviction.

Most spas choose their products from a distributor catalogue. We chose a different path, building an integrated formulation lab into the fabric of the business. The reason is straightforward: if you are going to make specific claims about what a treatment delivers, you need to know exactly what is in every product you are applying.

The lab was not part of the original spa. Resonance opened in 2017 as a results-focused Marin spa committed to cleaner-than-typical product choices. The first formulation experiments began the following year, in 2018, back-of-house, refined on willing clients in the treatment rooms. By 2019, the lab was a formal operation and the first INBAR+co products were on the shelf. Today every product applied during a treatment is developed in-house.

Over six years and tens of thousands of treatments, this process has produced a formulation library that spans clinical skincare, therapeutic body oils, and the amenities used throughout the spa. The same products are available at inbar-co.care, not a consumer version of the professional product, but the exact formulation.

Our principles

Four things wewill not compromise on.

Every formulation decision in the lab is made against these principles. They are not aspirational. They are operational constraints.

LivingFormulations.

Developed in practice, refined over time. Each formula evolves through spa use, production feedback, and repeated observation before it becomes a retail product, and continues to be refined after launch. Small-batch production allows ongoing iteration that mass-produced lines can't match.

SkinIntegrity.

Protect first, improve second. The skin is a system, barrier, acid mantle, and microbiome working as one. Our formulation sequence is built to support what is already there before improving texture, tone, and resilience over time.

MaterialIntegrity.

We do not claim what we have not measured. Packaging, sourcing, production, and shipping are treated as design constraints, not marketing claims. Aluminum, glass, FSC-certified paper, every operational decision documented and disclosed.

ResponsibleChemistry.

Biotech actives, green chemistry, zero plastic. Every formulation is designed without synthetic fillers or petro-derived emollients. If a biotech alternative to a synthetic active exists and performs, we use it. This is how the lab operates, not a marketing position.

The Living Formulation System

The Living Formulation System is not a philosophy, it is a process. Every product follows the same path from clinical observation to finished formula, and can return to the bench at any point as the science evolves.

INBAR+co products are born out of a collaborative, iterative process that literally starts on the treatment tables at Resonance Marin. We collect information from clients about the conditions they are seeking relief for, then formulate in our own lab, addressing these concerns and refining through daily use with thousands of clients. Every product began as something a real client needed: barrier-compromised skin, hormonal shifts during perimenopause, post-surgical lymphatic recovery, RF Microneedling recovery. If it works on the table, it becomes a product. If it doesn't, the formula goes back.

Clinical Observation

An esthetician or therapist identifies a gap, a skin condition, a treatment outcome that could be improved, or an ingredient combination supported by emerging research but absent from existing products.

Ingredient Research

Active ingredients are selected based on peer-reviewed evidence, biotech availability, and compatibility with green chemistry principles. No ingredient is chosen for cost, trend, or label appeal alone.

Lab Development

The formulation is developed and iterated in the on-site lab, adjusting concentration, vehicle, and delivery method until the formula performs as required. pH, stability, and skin compatibility are tested at every stage.

Treatment-Table Testing

The formulation enters treatment rotation. Results are tracked across skin types and conditions over multiple sessions. Feedback is direct. The formula is refined until it consistently performs.

Release, Professional & Retail

Formulations that meet the clinical standard are produced for professional use in treatments and, where appropriate, packaged for retail at inbar-co.care. The retail product is the same formula, not a diluted consumer version.

Combination philosophy

Ingredients chosento work together.

In classical traditional Chinese medicine, ingredients are chosen to function in combination with each other. For a plant to have been included in the Chinese apothecary, each of its parts had to be identified for a different healing purpose. The philosophy of two or more ingredients with synergistic effects diminishes possible toxicity, in fact.

This is the same logic applied to modern cosmeceutical formulation. When complementary ingredients are used together in just the right amounts, they enhance each other's strengths and temper their potential for side effects.

For example: CBD is a standout in therapeutics but we do not use it as a hero ingredient. Heroes work alone. INBAR+co formulations work in concert, multiple actives, each at clinically meaningful levels, supporting and balancing each other.

No off-the-shelf products are used in any treatment. This makes Resonance Marin the only spa in Marin County operating this way. What is INBAR+co?

INBAR+co is the retail skincare and bodycare brand that emerged from the Resonance Marin formulation lab. Every product in the INBAR+co range was developed in our Corte Madera spa, refined through tens of thousands of treatments on real clients, and formulated using green chemistry principles, biotech actives, no synthetic fillers, and plastic-free packaging throughout. The products are available at inbar-co.care and are the same formulations used in your treatment.

Are Resonance Marin products plastic-free?

Yes. Every INBAR+co formulation, both the professional-use products used in treatments and the retail products available for purchase, is packaged without plastic. Packaging is designed for a second life, not a landfill. This applies to every product category: skincare, bodycare, and amenities. Resonance Marin also formulates its own cleaning supplies in the lab, so plastic-free and low-impact chemistry extends to every product that touches your body or leaves our facility.

Is Resonance Marin powered by renewable energy?

Yes. The entire Resonance Marin spa, treatments, lab operations, and all building systems, runs on 100% renewable electricity through Marin Clean Energy's MCE Deep Green programme. This is not an offset or a credit purchase. It is the direct supply of renewable electricity to our Corte Madera facility.

Can I buy the products used in my treatment?

Yes. Every product used in your Resonance Marin treatment is an INBAR+co formulation available to purchase at inbar-co.care. Your esthetician or therapist will recommend the specific products used in your session. Because the formulations are ours, what you take home is exactly what was applied, not a consumer version of a professional product, but the same formulation.
