MEET SUZANNE- Japanese Acupuncture Q&A

our practitioner with over twenty years of experience in massage and acupuncture

WHAT WOULD YOU CONSIDER YOUR SPECIALITY?

My specialty is being able to combine and integrate several types of treatments to support individual well being. My style is influenced by decades of bodywork and massage and being able to trust the body’s innate abilities to find harmony and balance.

using finer needles, this treatment is known for it’s gentle approach

Traditional Japanese treatments often start with a Root Treatment to address the individual's constitution and current imbalance. Afterwards a Branch Treatment is given to address symptoms and any other acupuncture points that support any changes that appear in the pulse after the Root Treatment.

For instance we can see a Spleen deficiency at the root and Heat building up in other channels leading to headaches, insomnia, or body pain that we treat with the Branch points. Very often Back Shu Points are used as branch treatment but they address more chronic issues and treat the Yin organs. They are calming to the spirit and provide a very relaxing and gentle experience while offering a lot of therapeutic benefits.

in the Japanese style needles are inserted at a shallower depth than in Chinese acupuncture because it is believed that the body’s energy, qi is found closer to the surface.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO BECOME A HEALER?

WHAT MAKES RESONANCEMARIN SPECIAL FOR YOU?

I loved the idea of integrating bodywork with acupuncture in this setting. I enjoy working in collaboration with the other practitioners and people at ResonanceMarin and learning from all of them. I enjoy being a part of a team that is focused on a common goal of giving clients a truly supportive and memorable experience. It is very gratifying for me because we all need places and people that feel safe and comforting.

IS THERE ANYTHING SOMEONE CONSIDERING ACUPUNCTURE SHOULD BE AWARE OF?

Absolutely, there are always precautions and contraindications we are addressing. This is why communicating accurate and complete health information is so important.

WHAT BRINGS YOU JOY OUTSIDE OF WORK?

Good food with good people over conversation. I am happiest by a beach or in the woods and love to travel in general. I have never been to Yosemite and hope to visit before the snow arrives.  Dogs also bring a great deal of joy, they are pure unconditional love and are able to simply be in the present moment better than any person I have met.

ONE SPECIFIC TIP FOR RELIEVING PAIN OR AVOIDING INJURIES?

Movement. Movement. Movement. No matter the pain or limitation, keep finding ways to move. That can be as simple as a slow walk or yoga stretch. I love a soft density foam roller for self-massage and treatment. I think it is one of the best investments is to have a good quality foam roller.
